Jelena Dokic Weight Gain in 2023: Fit to Fat Journey Examined!

Jelena Dokic has undergone significant weight gain in 2023 due to her health issues. She has long been open about her difficulties with depression, social media harassment, body shaming, and alleged assault from her father throughout her career.

Jelena Dokic is an Australian tennis pundit, studio analyst, and former professional player who reached world No. 4 in August 2002. Throughout her career, she won WTA Tour events on all surfaces.

When she was just the 16-year-old, she pulled off one of the sport’s biggest upsets, defeating Martina Hingis 6-2, 6-0 in the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. This is the only occasion the women’s world number one has ever lost at Wimbledon to a qualifier. She went on to reach the quarterfinals of that competition, her only Grand Slam title.

On the other hand, Jelena Dokic received a lot of criticism over the years due to her overweight appearance. However, the tennis legend has recently opened up about her weight gain struggles and claimed now she accepted the way she is. Well, here is everything you need to know.

2023: Jelena Dokic’s Weight Gain Is the Result of Her Mental Health Issues!

Jelena Dokic (@dokic_jelena)  has undergone a significant weight gain in 2023. According to the reports, she reached 120 kilograms at her heaviest. Even though she demonstrated her talent when playing, she had a very difficult life and was never able to play to the best of her ability.

In an emotional late-night social media post to her fans, Jelena previously outlined the tragic reasons why she’d rather be a size 16 than a size 4. She has long been open about her difficulties with weight gain due to depression, social media abuse, body shaming, and claimed assault from her father, Damir, during her career.

On April 19, 2023, Jelena Dokic detailed her mental health issues due to her weight gain physique, which nearly led to her suicide. She wrote on Instagram,

What is the most common comment I see when it comes to my body size and weight? What happened to her? I can barely recognise her. Really? What happened? You can’t recognise me? Let me tell you what happened.

The tennis legend continued,

I survived being a refugee twice, I was bullied, I lived in a domestic violence filled home for 15 years and I was beaten unconscious, I was abused physically and emotionally and got beaten for the first time when I was 6 years, I was called a whore and a cow since I was as young as 11. I had to escape home, I battled anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma and I almost committed suicide.

The 40-year-old former Australian tennis star, who is frequently put to tears by online abuse, has managed to flourish and construct a new life for herself. She is pleased with herself. She stated,

I still managed to do pretty well, I managed to be top 5 in the world as tennis player and a grand slam finalist, I am a bestselling author, commentator and speaker but most importantly I survived. So while you see a weight and size change, I will tell you the difference between these two images.

She then added,

The one on the left is a size 4, scared to death, beaten unconscious and that bulge on my shins is from being kicked all night. The one on the right is me at size 16, I have survived it all and I am here healing from my trauma and thriving.

Furthermore, Jelena Dokic made it obvious that she would like to live her life at her current weight every day of the week if doing so would make her happy.

I believe the expression in the two photographs says it all.I’ll take a size 16 over a size 4 any day if it means I’ll be happy. If it means turning to food to survive, then so be it. But I’m here, I’m pleased, and most importantly, I made it. There you have it, once and for all. I went through hell and back, but I survived, and now I strive to help others. That’s exactly what occurred.

They lived in Fairfield, a Sydney suburb, and Doki (later Dokic) attended Fairfield High School. She has spoken about growing up in hardship, including living in a rat-infested shed after the family moved from Croatia to Serbia.
